Road accidents: 15 dead and 1,875 injured in urban areas last week

In the week of February 1 to 7, 1,404 traffic accidents occurred in urban areas, killing fifteen people and injuring 1,875 others, 83 of whom were seriously injured.

According to a press conference held by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) on Tuesday, these accidents are primarily the result of driver error, non-compliance with priority, excessive speed, inadvertent pedestrians, failure to respect the safety distance, change of direction without a signal, unauthorized change of direction, failure to respect the stop sign, failure to control vehicles, and other factors.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services recorded 41,858 tickets and established 9,643 reports submitted to the prosecution, while 32,215 transaction fines were collected, said the press release.

According to the DGSN, the total amount collected was 6,692,450 dirhams, which included the municipal impoundment of 3,846 vehicles, the seizure of 5,705 documents, and the withdrawal from circulation of 92 vehicles.
